The West Midlands has always been a place where different cultures, traditions and communities have come together to create something special. That is one of the reasons I’m so proud to support the Spirit of Pakistan Festival.
The story of our region cannot be told without recognising the enormous contribution of our British Pakistani communities. From the world-famous Balti Triangle and the vibrant fashion and jewellery businesses on our high streets, to successful entrepreneurs, family-run businesses, healthcare professionals, teachers, artists and community leaders, their impact can be seen in every corner of the West Midlands.
Cricket has brought generations together in parks, clubs and local leagues, while Pakistani food, music, art and hospitality have become part of what makes Birmingham and the wider West Midlands such a welcoming and exciting place to live and visit. These are not simply traditions belonging to one community - they are now part of our shared regional identity.
Spirit of Pakistan celebrates that story. It is a festival that honours heritage while looking confidently to the future, bringing people of every background together to experience culture, build friendships and celebrate the values that unite us all.
As Mayor, I want the West Midlands to be a region where everyone has the opportunity to succeed, where businesses can thrive, where young people can fulfil their potential and where every community feels valued and represented. Festivals like this help achieve exactly that by creating pride in our communities, supporting local enterprise and reminding us that our diversity is one of our greatest strengths.
