Birmingham is home to one of Europe’s largest British Pakistani communities, whose stories, achievements, and contributions have helped shape the city’s cultural, social, and economic life. This timely discussion explores the history, resilience, and impact of British Pakistanis, with a particular focus on the experiences of British Pakistani and Pakistani Kashmiri women.

Examining themes of migration, identity, belonging, and representation, the conversation offers fresh perspectives on the challenges and successes that have defined generations, while celebrating the enduring contribution of British Pakistanis to modern Britain.

The panel features journalist and historian Taj Ali, author of Come What May, We’re Here to Stay, alongside researcher Aleena Din, whose work explores the histories and lived experiences of Pakistani Kashmiri women in Britain. They are joined by Dr Karamat Iqbal, a Birmingham-based researcher whose work examines British Pakistani identity, education, and community life, with a particular focus on Birmingham’s diverse communities and their contribution to modern Britain.
